Meet Peter Papp  the founder, baker, and creative force behind Monapeteet Hungarian Cake Shop.

Our Story – One Year On

In February 2024, Peter opened the doors to Monapeteet with one goal: to bring the rich, comforting flavours of Hungarian cakes to the North East. With over 20 years of baking experience and a deep passion for his craft, Peter left behind the everyday routine to follow a dream rooted in heritage and tradition.

From day one, Monapeteet has been about more than just cakes. It’s about sharing memories, creating joy, and offering something truly special. Every cake is handmade from scratch – using time-honoured Hungarian recipes and the finest British ingredients. From the creamy Krémes to the iconic Dobos Torte, each slice reflects Peter’s dedication to quality and authenticity.

But like many small businesses, Monapeteet faced challenges. Balancing baking, operations, and everything in between became overwhelming. In early 2025, Peter made the tough decision to close the shop during the week to focus on a more sustainable path forward.

Today, Monapeteet opens on two days only – a rhythm that allows Peter to continue doing what he loves most: baking and sharing the flavours of Hungary, one cake at a time.
